Since Frog was first revealed via social media for The Masked Singer, there have been heated debates regarding which celebrity is hiding behind the mask. Who is Frog and what have the clues told us to confirm his identity?
When Frog was first released many picked up on the similarities of the purple suit to Jim Carrey's in Mask. Then after another clip was released debate was sparked over gender. In reality, all it told us was the celebrity was of smaller stature, and if you looked closely had a platinum record. If this didn't convince fans that we were dealing with a professional musician, his first performance definitely did. With his amazing energetic performance of "U Can’t Touch This" by MC Hammer, it became instantly clear that the celebrity was not new to singing and performing. This was the first time we got a clear idea of height as Frog stood noticeably shorter than Nick Cannon which ruled out a lot of early guesses like Jim Carrey who stands 6'2".
In the first clue package, fans got more than enough clues to pick their favorites, but some clues that not everyone picked up on were the ones that confirmed the fact that it is musician and actor Bow Wow, born Shad Moss, as the person behind the mask. In the first clue package, fans were shown a lightening bolt, a bag of leftovers (hush puppies specifically), a 1996 Olympics flyer, a mic with facebook "like" symbol, and $106. Frog mentioned slithering with the big frogs from jump jump and being ready to sing his face off. Every one of these clues points to Bow Wow. A lightening bolt and the "like" mic both refer to his movie Like Mike. The leftovers and being ready to sing his face off refer to two of his albums, Doggy Bag and Face Off. The 1996 Olympics were in Atlanta where Bow Wow lives now. He was a host of BET's 106 & Park hence the $106. And lastly, he was slithering with the big frogs from jump jump would refer to his start with the same label as "Jump" singers Kris Kross.
Week one clues, the quality of his rapping and the fact that his 5'7" height makes him a perfect fit for Frog still wasn't enough for some fans to be convinced, but week two clues are the nail in the coffin on this one. The week two clue package had a typewriter with the letters "C," "S," and "I" highlighted, a basketball, a $19 price tag on a fame plaque, and toy army men. He mentioned shooting and made several prince references. As fans of Bow Wow know the actor starred in the short-lived CSI spin-off CSI: Cyber. The basketball and shooting are both more references to his hit film Like Mike. The tag on the fame plaque pointed to yet one more of his albums The Price of Fame. He starred in a war film called Allegiance, which explains the toy army men and his song "Prince of Darkness" explains the prince mentions.
Though it probably doesn't need to be said, Bow Wow does have a platinum album. With not a single clue that doesn't fit, it doesn't get clearer than this when trying to figure out a Masked Singer's identity. As a triple threat, it's not surprising this show would be a perfect venue for Bow Wow. However, it's unlikely with as strong as his performances have been he'll be unmasked any time soon. And when it does happen, it's bound to be a tad awkward with his recent comments in regards to the online debate about whether he or Nick Cannon make better films. That's okay though, as a Bow Wow fan who was sad to see CSI: Cyber go, so it is great to have him on the TV screen weekly again - even if it is in a Frog mask.
