Theories continue to develop with regards to the identity of Kevin's son's mom on This Is Us. The season 3 finale of the NBC family drama brought fans to the not-so distant future with the reveal of an older Rebecca, seemingly on her deathbed. As her family convened, we found out that Number One has a kid. But with no mention of his mother, viewers have been wondering who the mystery woman is.
This Is Us has yet to give any major clues regarding this, and the introduction of Jennifer Morrison's Cassidy Sharp certainly posed the idea that she may be the mother of Kevin's child. However, for a show that prides itself in pulling effective plot twists, it seems too obvious. So, as everyone looks on the list of possible candidates, the mystery woman might be hiding in plain sight all along such as Madison (Caitlin Thompson). Kate's (Chrissy Metz) close friend has been popping in the show regularly in its last three seasons, and while we don't know the scope of her role in season 4, she has already made her first appearance in the latest season of the drama.
For someone who doesn't really have anything specific to do with the narrative, it's interesting that Madison continues to be a semi-prominent face in the show - as if she's being set up for a pivotal role down the road. After the season 3 premiere largely devoted to the new players of the show, This Is Us shifted its focus back to the Pearson family in the episode titled "The Pool: Part Two." We see how Kate and Toby are coping with the realization that Jack Jr. will grow up blind, while Kevin visits and provide them emotional support. During a split second in the episode, Kevin admires his nephew when the camera pans to Madison, who's also visiting the Damons to offer them some support during these trying times.

The said moment with Kevin and Madison could be a fleeting one, or perhaps even coincidental, but knowing that Kevin has recently broken up with Zoe (Melanie Liburd) because they can't see eye-to-eye when it comes to the idea of having kids in the future, it's difficult not to think that This Is Us wasn't implying something with this. Before this season, Kevin and Madison's interactions were minimal, and most of the time, Number One was being rude to his twin sister's best friend, almost always dismissing her. The most prominent example of that is during Kate's emergency labor episode from last season where he drove her out of the hospital because she's not family.
Assuming that they become an item, there’s precedence for Kevin suddenly falling head over heels with someone simply existing in his life - we’ve seen him be in one too many shotgun relationships. In hindsight, Madison is a great match for the eldest Pearson child. From what we know thus far, she seems like a well-adjusted young woman, who doesn't have the emotional baggage and issues that Kevin's previous girlfriends have. This makes her a prime match for Number One, considering that he needs all the emotional help he can get as he works his way out of his alcohol dependency issues.
If anything, their pairing is reminiscent of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) in the sense that the Pearson patriarch was a troubled man prior to meeting his wife. He still fought his demons even after they were married, but with Beck at his side, things were more bearable for him. Perhaps Kevin can find that kind of love as well.
This Is Us airs Tuesdays, 9pm ET on NBC.
