Actor Mike Moh has thrown his name into the ring to play the role of Shang-Chi in the MCU. Known as The Master of Kung Fu, Shang-Chi debuted in 1973 and was created by Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin in the wake of Bruce Lee's surging popularity. In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of Fu Manchu, and was molded by his father to be a "living weapon."
Shang-Chi was actually part of the original ten-movie line-up that Marvel had planned out in 2005, but fell by the wayside along with other projects, like a Hawkeye solo movie and a Power Pack adaptation. Kevin Feige ultimately resurrected the project, however, with Wonder Woman 1984 co-writer Dave Callaham penning the script and Destin Daniel Cretton signing on to direct. This will mark the first ever blockbuster Asian superhero film made by an American studio, and it will make Phase 4 onwards of the MCU an extremely diverse affair. As a result, potential casting of the character has been the subject of much suggestion and speculation.

Based on a Twitter post, Moh is more than open to taking on the role. After a fan tweeted proclaiming that they'd be "100% on board" if he was cast, Moh replied with the folded hands emoji, implying he was both flattered and not at all opposed to the suggestion. The reply only garnered further support from fans, who were quick to concur. Chief among them was Patton Oswalt, who posted a tweet of his own, endorsing Moh for the part, prompting yet more gratitude from the actor. Check out the posts below:
The wave of support arrives in the wake the first Once Upon A Time In Hollywood trailer being released. Despite starring such A-list actors as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie, Moh stole the show for many people with his uncanny portrayal of Bruce Lee. The actor has made somewhat of a name for himself through playing recognizable characters in the recent past. First coming to prominence as Ryu in the Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist web-series, he also starred as the comic book character Triton in Marvel's ill-fated Inhumans series.
Although some may consider his role in Inhumans as a hindrance to him featuring in the main MCU franchise, he wouldn't actually be the first actor to play multiple roles within that sandbox. Despite serving as one of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger, Kenneth Choi later went on to play Principal Morita in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Moh, therefore, jumping from an already disconnected and increasing forgotten corner of the world wouldn't be too difficult to accomplish. The fact that Moh spent most of his tenure on Inhumans under layers of makeup and prosthetics will also surely help.
As for him not being that much of a household name, that will surely change when Once Upon A Time In Hollywood rolls around, and audiences get to see more than just a glimpse of his potentially scene-stealing turn. Whether or not Moh ultimately fends off the stiff competition and lands the titular role in Shang-Chi remains to be seen. One thing for sure, though, is that he would, as a real-life martial arts expert, also be perfect in the way that Finn Jones wasn't for Iron Fist, and he clearly has a mass of support already behind him.
